About Middletown

Middletown, New Jersey is best known for its convenient central location, low crime rate, and abundant resources available to residents. At BHHS Fox & Roach, we can help you find your perfect home in Middletown.

Middletown Township can trace its roots to 1609, when explorer Henry Hudson arrived in the area and established the first-known European settlement in the area. Prior to this, multiple Lenape communities inhabited the region around the Sandy Hook Bay. The Old Spy House and Shoal Harbor Museum are two buildings in town that date to the 17th century. Officially, the municipality was founded in 1693. It was then incorporated into a township by the Township Act of 1798.

In the second half of the 20th century, Middletown rapidly grew into the suburban hub it is today. Now, it is home to many local, regional, and national businesses. The nearby Navesink River and Sandy Hook Bay provide a picturesque landscape for residents and visitors to Middletown.

In 2014, CNNmoney.com listed Middletown, New Jersey on its Top 100 Best Places to Live list. That same year, Time magazine declared Middletown to be one of the “Best Places to Live” in the United States. Middletown's high desirability comes from a variety of resources and cultural opportunities available to residents. The municipality, the 16th-largest in New Jersey, is ideally located between Philadelphia and New York City, making these cities and other population and commerce centers in New Jersey easily available for commuters. Its affluence, low crime rate, and proximity to the Jersey Shore also make Middletown a popular hometown for individuals and families.
